Here's a few pictures that show how the plumbing works. In the first one saltwater from the tank on the right is pumped to the top horizontal line to the tank. In this picture water is pumped from the right hand tank and straight up to the vertical valve that will lead back through the top of the same tank. This will circulate water to mix the saltwater in this tank. In this picture RO/DI water from the left tank goes to the bottom horizontal valve that will lead to my ATO reservoir. And in this picture water will go from the left hand tank to the right hand tank to prepare for mixing. Play like the second valve from the right is closed because it would be.
Would there be concern of salt buildup going to the ATO over time with using the same pipes and pump as salt? And it makes MUCH more sense now! Lol
Salt water and RO/DI go through different pipes. They share about 1 foot of 1" PVC and that can be bled off with the valves in the front of the set up.
Well the guys from Neptune came through. I had an appointment this evening. I had to take the base unit and one of the power bars off the tank and take them upstairs and connect them directly to the router. Fortunately they got it up and running very quickly. Then I spent the next couple of hours remounting the Apex and power bar and reconnecting all the probes and outlets. Nice to know that wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be. Even better news....my purple tang seems to have made a great recovery! His tail is still a little floppy but he's swimming and eating well and went in to the DT tonight.
Finished up plumbing the mixing station tonight. Leak tested the RO/DI to mixing tank and the circulation in the mixing tank and no problems.
I'm a little jealous of all of the room you have in there! lol I wish I had a huge work station for all of my fish stuff! So will this pump water to your ATO reservoir? Looks clean.
This room was the deciding point in deciding to buy this house! The bottom pipe you see is the one that will supply water to the ATO reservoir. The top one will pump fresh salt water.
Yes, because of the concrete wall behind the tank I don't have the luxury of plumbing enabling me to drain the old water. I'll siphon it out and pump it through a water hose in to the woods behind the house.
Would the salinity harm the trees? I've been pouring mine down the rain drains in the back yard but my wife thinks I should be dumping it down the drain instead. She's probably right.
I pour mine around the porch to kill the grass. It works temporarily but it takes a lot of salt water.
Short update. A couple of new fish to the DT this week, Purple Tang (about 4 inches) and a Gold Rim Tang. I've always wanted a Gold Rim but was reluctant to try one because of their reputation for being difficult to keep. Fortunately this one was the easiest fish to get eating I've had that wasn't a wrasse. Bad pics...tangs are harder to photograph than wrasse!
Some video of nori feeding. Lot's of folks don't realize how much a lot of wrasse love nori. Click on full screen. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
