I've seen people use LED bulbs quite a bit lately, I use the old bulbs from the display tank when I get new ones and I've used CF bulbs on smaller ones. They all seem to work very well.
I have a clamp light that I am currently not using. It will work for what you are wanting to do. It's also the same type that I have on my tank atm.
Ok, since we are talking about this. Now first let me say, to each their own and I understand you can do what you want. My question is, is there any logic to having a $500 vega for a refugium light If a $20 lowes led bulb works just as we'll at making algae. This is not for argument sake, there maybe an advantage I'm not aware of. And I have to say that's one cool refugium light. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 2
I used a clamp-on work light from home depot with a screw in LED lamp that was on clearance. The whole rig was about $30, cheap to run, and it does a good job of growing cheato. I think its a 5500K lamp color.
See the link for a good clamp-on. I removed the clamp on part & have mine secured with a bit of wire to the underside of the stand. http://www.lowes.com/pd_203213-1373-FL-300NPDQ12_4294857041__?productId=3122291&Ns=p_product_qty_sales_dollar|1&pl=1¤tURL=%3FNs%3Dp_product_qty_sales_dollar%7C1&facetInfo=
