so I was using API for Nitrate, calcium and KH, but figured I'd try the salifert nitrate test that was in the box of stuff that came with the tank. But how in the world do you read it? I very much dislike tests that are subjective to interpretation. Do I read it at the edges or in the center? How do I log if it seems to be in between 2 levels?

When looking down through the top at the edges it seems closer to 50 but right in the center it's more shallow and looks more like 25 to me. Which is correct?

I agree with you, I'd read that somewhere between the two. In the high range it's not that big of a deal because they both mean the same thing.....too high. When you get in the low range where you read by looking in the side it's much easier to decipher.

Ok! Sounds good. And I totally agree ... way too high! I've drastically cut back feeding and just vac'd up as much stuff as I could get and then blew more out from under the rocks and vac'd again. Then I did about a 12-15 gallon water change. I guess I just need to do a few water changes Over the next few days to get them down. I've added some bactergen md soaked Matrix to the sump and that helped some but I can't get it to come back down to a good level. I also got some marine pure balls to add hoping it would help with overall filtration. Not sure if they are known for denitrifying bacteria or not.
