I've tried many salt brands. In the end it's reef crystals for me. Don't get sucked into marketing hype!
I'm currently using reef crystals. When I first switched from IO to RC my alk was around 12, calc 300 and mag 900. Since switching my alk has finally stabilized at 9, calc at 440 but mag is only hanging around 1170. Not sure what's going on there based on the chart posted above. My mag should be much higher. I also got my 5 gal bucket from Vanessa. Every time I think I could get something on amazon cheaper I think about supporting the local shop and usually just end up getting stuff there. Unless it's part of our monthly order or something ... Does anyone have a salt that should raise mag better or should I just dose it up by itself?
I would dose manually or with dosing pump. Also, if you are going to have to dose somewhat frequently I would not use a combo product. Rather, something like BRS Mag.
Thanks. I picked up some fluval sea Mag only. I knew I didn't want the calc mag because I didn't want to raise that out of whack! I have done 1 dose and it's up to 1230.
