Anybody ever kept one of these? I know the risk it poses to the tank if it inks or dies. But my hair algae is out of control. I am trying to correct the cause, but if I don't do something with the algae now, it is going to kill my corals. I've got a sea hare coming in from live aquaria tomorrow. I'm wondering if.i should drip.acclimate it. Most everything I usually float in the tank, and then add. If it's a little more sensitive, I might slowly add tank water to the bag.

I also have a red goni coming. I know these are supposed to be more hardy. I wanted to order the ora version from divers den, but it was going to cost more shipping to add the sea hare to the order, and the sea hare was the purpose of the order. The goni I ordered did say aquacultured. So maybe it's just as hardy, or even an ORA one.

Are you sure it is GHA and not Briopsis?

Is it in the 93? If the tank size is larger the threat is less significant. You could be ready to run carbon and have water for a big change on hand just in case. I thought about it when my tank was young and I was battling hair algae. It's often a natural thing with a new tank and will pass on it's own as the tank matures. I forgot, how long has the tank been up?

According to Google Images, it is hair algae the best that i can tell. It's in the 93 gallon. It has been running a year now. I know it's not my water, bc I use a tds meter and the water is at 0ppm. I could be feeding too much, or it could've been the acropower. Once the sea hare eats all the algae, I'll try to supplement it's diet, or possibly trade it to another reefer eventually. The algae is getting close to my red Planet acro, and that thing has been doing good. So I don't want to lose it.

    What's your NO3 and PO4 running?

I'll have to check. I know that I'm going to have to figure out the algae cause. The sea hare is just to treat the symptom and try to make my tank look good before all the family comes over for the holidays.

I got it in the tank. It's interesting for sure, kinda scary looking. But it went right to the algae and started eating.

Love him! He'll never be as ugly/disgusting as a sea cucumber.

    Hiya,

I like my cuccumber! I actually still have one for sale. It doesn't look anything like the one above.

Yeah, there are lots of different species, some of them are cool. The one above is a Caribbean species. That particular one was over a foot and a half long.

Kim, how much are you asking for your cucumber? I'm in the same boat as Fattytwobyfour, but have been considering a foxface too.

My foxface don't touch it. It's magnificent foxface. Dunno if that makes a difference. And this morning my sea hare was sucked into a powerhead and killed. :(

I had better luck with the big turbo snails. They are bulldozers but will clean up a tank.

Even hair algae? I probably need to order a new cleanup crew.

I also think I need to reduce my photo period. I know most recommend 8 hours, but I run mine a little over 12 hours because of my schedule and I like to look at the tank. :/

They are the crap out of the hair algae in a short time. It was the big turbos like almost a golf ball size.

Me too. My lights don't come on till 2:00 pm so I can enjoy the tank when I get home from work.

I ordered from reefcleaners tonight. I may have went a little crazy, but I'm trying to find something that'll work for this tank. I ordered a sea cucumber, lettuce nudibranch, and a rock boring urchin. I'm a little nervous about the cucumber, bc I read it could wipe out a tank.

I also ordered some chaeto for the sump. I'm thinking that might help keep nitrates down. Any lighting suggestion for the sump? I just want something safe.

Reefcleaners is also carrying some corals now. I ordered some ricordea, rock flower anemones, and mushrooms.

And what kind of fixture did you use? I'm worried about it falling in the water.

Just a cheap clamp on fixture like this

I found a plastic clamp on at Home Depot.

Al I don't think the urchin will help you. They primarily eat coralline algae. I had several and that's all they ate in my tank. I really like the lettuce nudi!

Did you get around to checking your nitrate and phosphate?
