I am wanting to keep the equipment and wires as neat or at least as organized as possible around our tank. I was thinking about a cabinet with adjustable selves and an open back to house the top off water( on the bottom self) and other equipment and supplies. My question is - would it be a bad idea to put the transformers for my MH lights on selves to keep them off of the floor. With the back open, I was thinking if I needed to I could put a fan blowing in from the back. Thanks for any advise

I see no problem at all with doing that, depending on what type ballasts they are you may or may not even have to use a fan to help with the heat they produce.

I think shelves would be a great thing to have, but in my experience there is never enough room under the stand for the sump, refug, and other equipment to allow for shelves. If you can make it work please post some pics. I am always ready to see new ideas.

    Re: Cabinet question

The selves are going to be in a cabinet next to the tank not under the stand. Just talk to Kevin on the phone, can't wait to see the finished product. Will post a before pic and after pics when it's all done. Here is a very simple pic of the idea--                                                                                                                                                                                 [IMG]

Yep, this is something we talked about for the 400 back when we started the stand build (almost 3 yrs ago). Chris says I will have it completed in Sept. just in time to move to the new house. Still need to get the kitchen cabinets made for the back side of the stand. Hope that dosen't confuse anyone. Will post later with the details.

    Re: Cabinet question

I had two small cabinets like this when I had tanks in my house. One for the 75 and one for the 34... had the ballast in the bottom and the power strips in the top... Worked great.

GREAT JOB KEVIN,,,I couldn't be more pleased with what you have built and my wife loves it. Can't say Thanks enough.  Oh yea, and you hit the doors and trim on the head. They are a perfect match to the fireplace and kitchen cabinets and I love the way you hide the trim on the tank.  Two Thumbs Up and Thanks Again.
