Caution with wooded tank stands!

So it's been about 8 months since setting up my system and I noticed some brown powder on top of my sump. I look up underneath and see my wood is getting eaten alive by powder post beetles. This wood is inch and a half pieces of thick old redwood. My stand was built with old oak and redwood that was supposedly dried and cleared from pests but apparently not. It seems to be isolated to just one specific piece so I put a tarp over my sump for the day and treated the wood with Bora care. Hopefully this will do the trick but if not I already have a quote for a heavy duty aluminum tank stand ready to order. If worst comes to worst I will get a new stand and transfer the system over. Fingers crossed it wont come to that. This sort of thing can happen with new wood also. Especially lumber that comes in from other parts of the world. The eggs and larva can remain dormant for over a year and the there is no way anyone can tell they are in there. Needless to say I will never be doing a system again with a wood stand unless it's just the shell that goes around a metal frame. Just wanted to put this info out there so you guys are aware of the possible risk. It's not common but it can happen.

Yeah buddy, I hope so. It wont be easy moving the whole system on to a new stand.

Oh, man! That's terrible! I hope you don't have to do anything else. Your tank is doing so well I know you don't want to have to take it apart to put a new stand in!

Yeah time wilm tell....I will know here pretty shortly for sure. If I see the slightest sign of them at all I am putting through the order for the new stand. Me and Porter came up with a good way to transfer the tank to the new stand by just draining the water only. But hopefully it wont come to that.
