Never thought of coral shopping on vacation! Totally keeping that in mind if I ever make it back down there!

I do it all the time. If I travel by car any long distance I take a cooler with me

Can you take coral in carry on luggage?

It is easier to take a fish.

But do they let you? I know you can't take liquids over a certain amount and all ... or does it have to be checked? I wouldn't trust checking something live.

Drive it's much easier. You can bring whatever you want.

If you buy something live online, save the packaging for your own use to transport something life. Most likely, that package has already survived as cargo on a plane.

Yes, but driving isn't always an option. Just curious.

So you pack it in a shipping box and check it rather than carry on? I guess it would be easy enough to pack a box and some bags in your luggage and find something to pack it with.

Wondering now if I have a suitcase that would accommodate the shipping box rather than checking it as a separate bag. You know how they like to upcharge checking additional baggage!

Man I would be very worried about checking a fish. I've seen how baggage handlers treat checked luggage. Could you package it and over night it to your self (FedEx or UPS). I've heard fish are pretty easy to get on as carry on. If TSA can see it swimming around they know there is no danger.

Oh I would carry on then. And I agree about checked baggage ... they don't care one bit ... but I've also seen packages I've received in the mail ...
