So it seems that I purchased my tank at just the right time for everything to start dying! First my return pump went out and the box of pumps seems to be a box of fried pumps! Unless I can soak them and hope they are just locked up ... (wondering why one would keep a box of fried pumps ... ) anyway ... I came home yesterday to my skimmer pump making a crazy noise so I quickly shut it off. Pulled the whole thing because I needed to clean it anyway and was going to try soaking the pump in vinegar water and giving it a good cleaning but when I went to plug it in to circulate the water it immediately tripped the outlet. I reset it and checked the plug for water and it was dry so I tried again with the same results. It's fried!

So now to my question ... I have a lifereef Skimmer. The website says you can use any pump but never says what amount of flow or size you need or anything ... at least nothing that I can find.

So in looking for a replacement pump, I'm wondering what size I need ... there was very little info on the other pump but it was a standard grey pump that was bigger than my fist. It seemed to have some umph to it by I really have no idea what I'm looking for. I also don't want to break the bank as I've spent a lot on the tank recently and have been put on a budget! :rolleyes:o_O:confused: If we could keep it in the $100 or less range that would be awesome ... but I understand if that's not doable.

Similar issue. I lost my skimmer pump in the idiotic owner incident. Got the new pump, same model as old pump, only to discern that they had redesigned the pump and the venturi inlet is on the pump outlet. Problem, my skimmer no longer fits over the inlet. ARGGGGGGHHHH. HELP. Solutions or is it time to say bad words and order that Deltec I have been lusting over?

What brand and model number of skimmer? That will tell the tale.

It's a lifereef Skimmer. As far as I can tell there is no specific pump for them. I did find a lifereef group on one of the forums and was browsing through the more recent pages and found a few prospective pumps. I'm going to measure my Skimmer tomorrow to see which model it is (everyone was just referring to height and not models) so that may tell me more. I'd get one like my return pump but it's pretty large and I'm not sure it'd fit in the Skimmer section. I don't need that much power so I could go with the smaller model but I'm not sure how much smaller it would be.
