    Hey everyone,

I just found out about this group and am excited to join. I currently have two tanks:
    1. 20 gallon freshwater tank with an Australian redclaw crayfish and 9 danio
    2. 5 gallon freshwater tank with a betta splendens and a nerite snail

    Can't wait to see y'all

Welcome to the salty side! Be careful this stuff is contagious, but then you already know that from your freshwater experience.

Any pics to share of your current tanks? I would love to see the crayfish. I think freshwater inverts are really cool.

No salt bug yet haha. I must have misinterpreted the name. Figured this was just for Arkansas aquarium keepers in general.

I do have pictures! See below.

This is so true. I recently got back in with my nano cube and a week later I have a 40 gallon.

I'd like to but the startup is so expensive I've heard. I don't really have the space for anything big either. Could probably only do a five gallon lol.

Yeah, its a little tough to start up, but from experience you will end up spending way more money with a nano over time because of the instablility of it. Right now Petco is having a dollar per gallon sale so you could get a 20 or 40 gallon and just tuck it away for a bit. I built my own stand and it was way less expensive than buying a stand for a reef setup.

I've got a 55 gallon I plan on doing fresh but need a stand. Is there a way you recommend?

Yeah, I used this structural method. I used 2x4 and it is supposed to hold up to 2500 pounds. I wont come near that, but better to be safe than sorry. You can use 2x6 if you want to go even stronger and I am pretty sure that stand construction can hold like 14,000 lbs.

That guy has a lot of great content.
If you want to see my stand you can check out my build thread or the facebook page. The title is Yea, Saltwater Fish

I love this channel. I'll rewatch to refresh ahah. How big of tank was yours for? How much did it cost?

I have a 40 gallon breeder. The total cost was like 170, but I bought the "barnwood" from home depot which for me was worth it so that I didn't have to buy 1x4s and stain or go get pallets and tear them apart and pick through tons of wood. You could probably build a stand with no "fancy stuff" for under 75 most likely.

    This is your tank stand?

Wow! That's awesome! It looks amazing. If I did a stand I'd probably do something similar since this would be THE display tank of the house.

I was originally just going to wrap it in birch plywood, but then decided that since the rest of my furniture is rustic (Ive built most of my furniture) I would match everything.

I am extremely satisfied with the drilling that I did the overflow and return look great in the tank.

I have to modify the canopy (which I dont know what im going to do yet) so that I don't have to lift it off the tank each time. Its heavier than I thought it would be.

That's how most of my furniture is. I'd have to find more of a gray looking wood, but it's doable. I also would probably skip the cannopy for that reason, unless I can find an easy way to get it on and off

If I owned my own house I would put in a type of cabling system. I would run cables from the canopy to the ceiling and then just be able to crank it up.

The dream for me would be a hydraulic system sorta like a car hood. Have hinges underneath that allow you to lift it up and when you let go it stays where you left it. Avoid the cables from the ceiling.

I think I will do that with my canopy now. I will probably cut the front, put hinges on it and do something like that.

Probably don't need the hydraulics even. Just have it hinge somehow and lean the canopy against the closest wall when you're using it.
