Button Mushroom Problem?

    Hi reefers!

I was wondering if anyone has run across this as well with their button mushroom (Rhodactis inchoata). It seems to be turning translucent on me. Maybe too much light or flow or both?

It wasn't a "cheap" one by any means and don't want to lose it! It spreads out just fine during the day and looks happy other than the color. It's located in the bottom half of the tank with some direct light and gets indirect flow.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!!

    Jarrett

Try putting it on the bottom and off to the side. Give it less light. Can you take a picture under white lights instead of just the blues?

I've had this same thing happen in the past. No clue what happened! I also have had all of he corals in the original QT turn almost pale but neon, including an old mushroom rock. I feel like it's lighting but I honestly don't know. I know a lot of the zoas I've moved to the DT have started to regain some color but they are still quite pale and neon.

Here is is under clear white. I am going to move it like you said and see if it colors up.

@LJC6780 every coral on that rack is severely bleached. You are either blasting it with too much light, not enough nutrients in the water, or both

I barely had any light on it at all and it did that. I have added and decreased light over time and it stays the same. It is the QT tank with 3 fish and gets fed daily. Periodic water changes where I vac out all the funk. I'll turn the lights way down and limit the time and see if that helps.

What I don't get is how the ones I've moved started coloring up almost immediately under Kessils that are on for about 14 hours a day. Some are way up near the lights too. And actually, the ones I placed down on the floor are taking longer. I don't get it.

RIP kind of expensive button mushroom. The Fish Tank thought it might have been some type of parasite that ReVive didn't kill. ☹️
