Hi, all I am thinking about setting up my 75 gal reef tank again after about 7 years. Had to take it down because I moved never set it back up. Good thing is I have all of my equipment just have to buy sand. I was running MH on the tank but I was thinking about going with the Aqua illumination prime HD. I was wondering if anyone has used them and also will it provide enough lights for coral.

    Thanks

I am running a Prime but on a 10 gallon IM Fusion. I don't think it would be adequate for corals in a 75 except maybe some LPS/zoas right underneath it. I'd run the metal halides, there's absolutely no doubt they will grow corals!

Welcome to the site, hope you can make it to a meeting soon. Start a build thread when you get it going!

Thanks for replie I was just trying to get get away from the MH because of heat I was reading the AI 52 led light I believe it is 135 watt max I would have to have 2 of course. Just wondering if anyone had any experience with them.

    Hiya,

Greetings! A lot of folks are going back to T-5's. Yes, it's a pain changing the bulbs out, but they grow corals really well.

We've got a few members in Jonesboro! Hopefully they'll chime in.

I'm running 2 Kessil 360s on an 85 and they seem to have done very well, growing lots of different corals. I just acquired the tank and inhabitants but most everything looked big and happy!

Ive read some good reviews on the kessils and they seem to get good reviews. Still got plenty of time for the lights just cleaning equipment atm since it has been sitting in shop for a few years. Hopefully in a week ill have everything cleaned and be ready to cycle. Thanks for the info.

I am running 3 AI Hydra 52HD on my 6 foot tank. I have been very pleased with them.

This is the day I set up the tank.

I had leds when I started mine, but after seeing John Carrolls tank I made the switch to t5's

I had metal halides the first time but man the heat was awful. Decided to try the LEDs out so far I really like them. The pics show more blue in pic than they actually are. They are super bright only running them at 70%. T5's have proven they work excellent at growing corals that's for sure.

Very nice looking, especially since you just set it up and it looks like that already. Is it already cycled? I am curious about the current LED's. I have had LED's since they first came out on my African tank. I am fixing to have to replace the power supply again. It seems the power supply gets weaker over time while the lights stay the same. Has anyone else noticed this? T5's worked for years, no reason while they would not still work. Personally, I have all three. MH during the day. LED at sunset and sunrise, and fluorescent late at night before lights out. I don't know what the fish think of it, but I like it. As for the heat of MH, seperate the ballast from the light, it helped me.
