The Biocube that I won at Reef Fest a few years ago became Alyssa's tank. When she move to Orlando to go work for a giant mouse we tore it down. It has been collecting dust since May. I kept it just in case she wanted to set it up when she got done. Now that she is back from Disney she doesn't want it set up again. So, I am thinking about setting up another tank. I'm thinking about building it as a zoa tank. What would you build it as? Or would you build it?
A zoa allstar tank would be great. I've also been thinking about a species tank of some kind. Temperate water/Catalina Goby tank or a seahorse/pipe fish tank were a couple of ideas I was thinking of.
Jennifer's tank was originally going to be a Seahorse Pipefish tank but we couldn't find horses. We did have Pipefish though for about a year and a half. I would love a Catalina Goby. Those things are gorgeous. What type of fish would you do in a Zoa tank? I'm bouncing between some wrasses since they eat pests or a few Bangaii Cardinals because I think they are beautiful. John
Hiya, I've heard that Catalina gobies need a cold water tank. That they don't survive long in a regular tank set up, it's to warm. Kim/Benton, AR
That's why it said "temperate water" in front of Catalina Goby. . They're not really a cold water species, temperate which means low 70's. Some people keep them in reef tanks but their life expectancy is shortened in the warmer water. The other thing about a temperate tank is there are some really beautiful shallow water rock anemones that live in those waters as well!
Sea World San Diego had an amazing display of those anemones and Catalina gobit's. The nems were hot pink.
The only wrasse appropriate for that size tank would be a Possum wrasse. I think the Bangii would be awesome. Would love to have a breeding pair.
I was also thinking about a Pearly Jaw Fish but since I will have an open top that is just asking for a carpet surfer.
Trevor answered my Facebook request for Tonga. I see a build coming after I clean the rock. Don't hold your breath though, this may be a slow one.
Played around today. Is it too cluttered? I still have a lot left over. I still want to incorporate some of these pieces too. Thoughts?
