right now I have a pink margin wrasse, pair of black and white clowns, and a sailfin/lawnmower blenny. Looking to add 2-3 more fish to the tank. I would like some advice on what y'all have or have had that are peaceful and not going to eat the corals. I saw a really pretty coral beauty but found out it wasn't reef safe. I would like to have something that is colorful. Any help is appreciated.

You could add a black cap basslet or a purple pseudochromis for purple. A yellow assessor would be nice too. Purple firefish would be another possibility. All are colorful.

You could also choose a flasher wrasse.

Thanks doc. I really like that flasher wrasse. Had also thought of either a yellow or green coris wrasse.

I would avoid the green coris. Beautiful as juvies, ugly and mean as adults. A yellow wrasse will push 6" as an adult and might be too big for a 40 breeder. They grow pretty fast. A small one would probably be ok for a year or so. The one Jason got from me was 1.5" 3 years ago.

A smaller and better Halichoeres wrasse would be red line (H. biocellatus).

I guess I should have added the tank size on the first post it's a 90 gallon. I really like that red line wrasse as well.

Cool, yellow would be fine and they are great fish!

90 opens up some more possibilities depending on your tolerance of risk.

A Yellow Coris is a good choice. Not only are they active but the will eat flatworms too if you accidentally get some. Hawkfish are cool looking but do more perching than swimming.

    Hiya,

Don't go for the green coris!!! I have one and though he's gorgeous in my opinion, he's a mean shit! I've had him now for several years. Love flasher wrasses...those are neat! Maybe a yellow tang?

Thanks Kim. I had thought of a tang as well just wasn't sure if would work long term in a 90 gallon. I've read conflicting reports.

One more question for y'all. Where is a good reputable place to order fish? We really have no local LFS.
    Thanks

    Hiya,

I've had a yellow tang in my 75 now for almost 3 years. It's fine. I don't order fish on line, so can't help you there.

Thanks Kim. I may have to check with the fish bowl or fish tank about ordering some and make the trip to go get them. I've been trying for over a month to get the local store to order one and no luck yet.

I've ordered from bluezoo, liveaquaria and liveaquaria's Divers Den. Their fish come with a pretty good live guarantee. You just call them up and tell them your losses and its credited back to your account. Diver's Den is a bit more pricey but you get WYSIWYG selection, also the quality/health of the fish is much better. When ordering from liveaquaria or bluezoo, make sure you look at the table/charts on the size of fish available for order. If the fish are sold as small and range from 1/4"-1/2", you can expect that you will probably receive some 1/4" specimens, which are really small.

Bluezoo has a smaller free shipping threshold to meet if I recall while Liveaquaria's is a little higher. Bluezoo's fish are generally slightly more expensive while liveaquaria's will be cheaper.

I have also used Bluezoo and DD. I would also add to the NY Aquatic, Zoa Collector.com. I have gotten some really great deals from Bluezoo but some problems too (like the 5.5" white tail tang that was supposed to be 3" and was shipped in less than a gallon of water). I also got a beautiful Lineatus wrasse for half what he would have cost on DD. Mixed bag.

Picked up some new additions this morning at the fish bowl in searcy. Got a yellow coris wrasse, Christmas wrasse, and yellow tang. Worth the drive to support a sponsor and didn't have to fool with online stores. Lol

There are several different wrasses that are called "Christmas Wrasse". Do you know which one you got? Halichoeres ornatisimus is from Hawaii and gets pretty aggressive with age.

Not sure but I'll see if I can figure it out.

Best I can figure it is a Halichoeres biocellatus. Red lined wrasse female. I'll try to get a good picture of it later.

Ooooh of all the ones that go by Christmas Wrasse that is my favorite by far. Very peaceful, not a threat to inverts and is one of the smallest of the Halichoeres genus. They are also the one that is the prettiest as juvie/female. Never seen a male offered for sale but have seen a few pics of ones that have transitioned to male after being owned for a while and they were impressive.

That is the first biocellatus I've heard of at a LFS around here. They don't even get them on LA/DD very often!
