Picked up a 2g Fluval Spec yesterday. I'm taking my time with this one. Many modifications going on. If someone runs across any good ideas for these (lighting, filtration,..etc) please let me know. Especially if there's an ato small enough to fit.

Well picked up a fixture today at Home Depot. Figured I'd mess around with it a little.

I had an old display wall light I've been thinking of doing something with.

This is what I ended up with. The glass is pretty heavy, but I wanted to try to match the frosted glass look.

Ordered my light for this thing. It's a 9w led. 2 whites and a royal blue. Wasn't the greatest bulb but not bad for $12. And small enough for what I'm trying to do.

Think this will be all the rock I use. I wanna go very simple with this. Still trying to decide if I want to go bare bottom or black sand.

I just took four pieces of rubble I had in my old refugium and glued them together. That's why I love little tanks.

    Hiya,

Try bare bottom first. Less chance to get waste build up. If you don't like it, you can always add substrate.

just a suggestion.. you said the glass of light was heavy... recut it out of acrylic and use that frosting spray to recreate the look of the original glass box shade

you could even make the acylic one a bit longer if needed to hide the bulb.

heck you might even be able to find a new square plastic one at homedepot or lowes for cheap

Yeah I'm going to have to make another Home Depot trip. I really like the light but the glass is just so thick, I wasn't sure how it would hold up.

    Minor Speculation.

So I took pieces from the original fixture and an old Solana fixture and made this

My new pump came in. The spec came with a 40gph pump. The space to fit it in is 2"x1 7/8". I finally ordered a rio 90, it is 2x2 1/8. So I had to take the front and back cover of the pump and do a little sanding to it to get it in but I finally got it. Now 80gph

My makeshift ato until I figure out how I'll make a permanent one that will fit. Yep a hamster water bottle I just took out the stainless steel shaft and instant $2.50 auto top off, for now.

Coming along great! Have you seen the nano skimmers made from plastic water bottles? Might work for you.

Haha..., I have seen them, and I've seen people make some pretty small ones with acrylic tubes but I think am going to just stick with weekly water changes rather than have too much equipment all over this thing.
